The Environment Rating Scales are four classroom rating instruments used to evaluate preschool and early child care programs. The evolution of these scales spans 25 years of work at FPG Child Development Institute at UNC-CH.

The four colored rectangles in this logo represent the original four book covers, which are printed in those colors. The reversed white rectangle in the middle forms the field to frame the monogram for the project and implies the fifth scale (and most recent addition).
